Welcome

Background

The choir was formed in 1993 under the musical directorship of Mrs Sheila Crowley. Their members and musical directors, as their name suggests, are members of the highly rated Co Sligo Golf Club at Rosses Point in the Northwest of Ireland. As the golf season comes to an end in September the choir season begins and continues until the following Easter with weekly practice sessions in the club house.

They have participated with distinction at choral festivals throughout Great Britain and Ireland, securing many first prizes most notably at the North Wales Choral Festival in 2008 where they were first in their section and first in the overall festival. They have also secured prizes at the Cork International Choral Festival and the Sligo International Choral Festival.

The choir has also made many television and radio appearances since their formation, including RTE’s Open House, Nationwide, Morning Worship and also presented a compilation of Christmas Carols on North West Radio. In addition they have performed in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast on three occasions with George Hamilton IV at the Celebration of Christmas Peace Concerts.

They continue to delight audiences with their wide-ranging repertoire of classical and popular music.  On an annual basis they host Christmas and Spring concerts and in the process raise money for various local charity groups. Since their foundation they have raised in excess of €50,000 from these concerts.

In 2005, the choir released their first CD entitled “Stout Hearted Men” which has proved very popular. This was followed by their first DVD - 'Live at the National Concert Hall' in 2009,

The choir’s accompanist and assistant Musical Director is Niamh Crowley, violinist and founder of The Sligo Academy of Music.
